Longmorn Distiller's Choice

Longmorn Distiller's Choice

Longmorn Distiller’s Choice is a NAS, basement proof whisky from Speyside distillery Longmorn. It’s matured in a mix of Oloroso, Bourbon and “Hogshead” casks. Every information page I’ve seen for this whisky seems to be just ignoring the fact that there’s no information about what was previously in those hogsheads or where they came from. Am I missing something there?

This marks the start of my Speyside Safari. I will be trying around 17 different base-level Speysides to get a better feel for a region I’m not so experienced with.

  1. Longmorn Distiller's Edition

Distiller: Longmorn
Distilled: Undisclosed
Bottled: Undisclosed
ABV: 40%
Age: NAS
Cask type: Oloroso, Bourbon and hogsheads of undisclosed origin.
Source: Pour at Grand Terminus, Bergen, Norway.
Setting: Unblind.

Nose: Candied cherry, lightly grassy, perfume, ferns, a musky thread. Actually a fair bit happening here.
Palate: Vanilla cream. Blink and you’ll miss it, this one just disappears on the palate.
Finish: What finish? Barely any to speak of, just a whisper thin note of vanilla cream remains from the palate.
Overall: The nose on this one was really interesting, and got my hopes up. They were promptly dashed by this bodyless pour. This would be a good thing to give to someone who doesn’t really like whisky. It may be one of the prettiest whiskies I’ve ever tried. I don’t really want to say this is bad per se, because it is not. But the lack of any interesting flavour or finish puts it in multiple flaw territory for me, and thus the mythical t8ke rating system dictates that it is, indeed, Bad.
