Havana Club Seleccion De Maestros

Havana Club Seleccion De Maestros

Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros is a cuban Havana Club that is a little more upscale than the base level offerings. They’ve bumped the proof up to 45%, and boast that each cask that went into the blend was hand selected by a “maestro”. Here in Norway we only get Cuban Havana Club, so there’s nothing particularly special about this apart from it being a slightly more exclusive offering.

I tasted and rated this blind, only information I had beforehand was that it was rum.

Distiller: Havana Club
ABV: 45%
Age: NAS
Cask type: Undisclosed
Source: Pour at Statsraaden Bar, Bergen, Norway
Setting: Blind

Nose: Brown sugar, a light and fruity oak, some bourbon corn notes and a nice treacle thread. This was a nice nose that was particularly enjoyable compared to the other two I was tasting blind with.
Palate: Full and fruit. That treacle thread ruins its way through the palate, with a good amount of vanilla laced ethanol. I really interesting manuka honey retronasal note. Mouth coating.
Finish: Caramel, burnt sugar, a light white wine note. Oaky vanillins. Decent length.
Overall: This I really liked. Full and rich on the palate, a really nice oak complexity. Pretty delicious.
