Wemyss Chewy Pineapple Crisps (21yo Clynelish)

Wemyss Chewy Pineapple Crisps (21yo Clynelish)

Chewy Pineapple Crisps is another Wemyss single barrel bottling of 1997 Clynelish whisky. It was aged for 21 years in a single hogshead before being proofed down to 46% and bottled in 2018, yielding 261 bottles.

This was tasted partially blind with another Clynelish bottling, their names (which are rather palate-influencing) were not revealed until after these notes were written.

This is my fifth in a series of 6 reviews of Wemyss products.

Distiller: Clynelish
Distilled: 1997
Bottled: 2018
ABV: 46%
Age: 21yo
Cask type: Hogsheads of undisclosed origin
Source: Pour at Grand Terminus, Bergen, Norway.
Setting: Unblind.

Nose: Toffee apple bomb! Vanilla forward. Bourbon, white bread, wood, and a buttery plastic note.
Palate: Briney, gingerbread and a bourbony vanilla note. Heat builds.
Finish: Pineapple, baking spice. Hot and oily, a particularly long finish.
Overall: Jesus, they were not lying about the Pineapple part. That was the first thing I got on the finish, before even hearing what the name was. I also loved the briney bourbon note running through the whole thing. It is crazy how different this was from the other 1997 Clynelish. It bares little resemblance. In comparison, I liked the nose of this one more. If one could somehow merge the nose of this whisky with palate of the other, well that would be an 8.
