Ron Millonario XO

Ron Millonario XO is a Peruvian solera-style rum. It is Ron Millonario’s premium offering, going for well over the price of, for example, Ron Zacapa 23. It is not age stated (as if solera age statements mean anything anyway). I was impressed by the previous two Millonario rums, but at this price level I would be expecting a producer to cut the shit and stop bottling their rum at basement proof. Ron Millonario did not cut the shit, and this rum is 40%. In fact, I think they might have interpreted “premium” to mean “weak and sugary”, because they dosed the hell out of this rum at 40g/L.

Distiller: Ron Millonario
ABV: 40%
Age: NAS
Cask type: American Oak.
Source: Pour at Statsraaden Bar, Bergen, Norway
Setting: Unblind

Nose: Musky, nutmeg, old lady’s perfume, tobacco, dates. Weird. This smells like this person on the bus that has put too much perfume on that you want to switch seats to get away from.
Palate: Sweet. Mango, some baking spice, but jesus this is sweet.
Finish: Cloying molasses, tobacco, tropical fruit.
Overall: Cloyingly sweet, this is an example of wasted potential. If I wanted to drink syrup, I could save a lot of money by buying it from the grocery store. No thanks.
