Kilkerran 12

Kilkerran 12

Glengyle’s first core release and now a solid standard of Campbeltown, Kilkerran 12 is a lightly peated, non chill filtered blend of sherry and bourbon aged whisky that has a lot going for it. With the hype overflowing from Springbank, and with such a solid product as their core, Glengyle surely has a bright future ahead of them.

Distiller: Glengyle Distillery
ABV: 46%
Age: 12yo
Cask type: 70% Bourbon, 30% Sherry
Source: Pour at Bergen Beer and Whisky Festival
Setting: Unblind

Nose: Blue cheese leads, one of my favourite notes that seems to be a perennial in Campbeltown; backed with apple, walnut and a musty hint of sherry. A beautiful nose.
Palate: Creamy custard, brazil nut and pear. Falls back to some pretty standard territory here, those complexity from the nose fades a little.
Finish: Orange, custard, grainy notes and sherry funk. Medium length.
Overall: Incredible stuff for the price, this is a bottle any Campbeltown fan should consider owning.
