Knob Creek

Knob Creek

My second foray into Beam’s small batch bourbons (I own a full bottle of one of the Booker’s export bottles, review of which you can see here). I really love my bottle of Booker's, so chances are I'll like this too. **Source**: Poured at Grand Terminus, Bergen, Norway. **Setup**: Semi-blind in a trio tasting with Michter's 10 Bourbon and High West Double Rye (glasses themselves were unmarked, but I knew which whiskies were in the trio).
Drank: Neat, in a Glencairn-style stemmed glass.

Nose: Cream, cookies, some baking spice (cardamom, cinnamon). Raw/freshly sawn wood. Dry leaves and a bit of musty nut character after take a break and coming back to it.
Palate: A bit hot, with a milky mouthfeel. Apparent spice. Stewed peas?!
Finish: Reasonably short on the finish. Peanut, cabbage (in a good way) and crushed leaves.
Overall: A bit of spicy complexity, but otherwise a reasonably straightforward bourbon.
Blind guess: Knob Creek. The musty nutty character on the nose gives it away as a Beam product.

Rating: 5

Thoughts: Definitely an enjoyable bourbon, and one I would not be ashamed to own a bottle of or have as a daily drinker… as long as the price is right. I didn’t like it nearly as much as I like bookers, but that could definitely be a function of the high proof of Bookers.
