Rowan's Creek

Rowan's Creek

Rowan’s Creek is a Bourbon produced by Willett/KBD as one of their more globally accessible brands. Originally age stated at 12 years and sourced, it is now NAS, but reportedly still sourced. This is the NAS version, and was purchased at the Faroe Island’s national spirit monopoly in 2018.

This is a blind review that was done in a set of 21 blind bourbon (and rye) reviews, tasted in sets of 3 (on different days). None of the whiskies were revealed until all 21 were drunk. More information about this setup in the first review of the series. 1. Old Forester 1920

Nose: Young. Corn flakes and porridge, corn grits. Sweet vanilla ice cream.
Palate: Sweet, confectioners sugar and candy cane. A spearmint note really drives home the candy cane.
Finish: Reasonably short, light and sweet. Corn bread, sugar and batter.
Overall: This was obviously a bit young and grain forward, but it’s a super sweet and light whisky that, now that I think about it, might entice some speyside drinkers. As a bourbon though, it’s a bit of a let down. This doesn’t really deliver.
Rank: 3
Guess: The grain forward nose really conjured Rowan’s Creek to mind. So I’m going to go with that. It does have some notes that bring to mind WT101, but I think I’d like WT101 more, I remember it having more funk and complexity. This is a sugary corn bomb.
Reveal: No surprises here. This is not a bottle that I find myself pouring from often.
