Michter's 10yo Bourbon

Michter's 10yo Bourbon

Since the last time I drank Michter's and had it in a blind tasting with Knob Creek and High West DR, I have purchased a bottle and thought it might be fun to put it in this set. I believe they are both the same year, but I'm not sure they're the same barrel. Lets see how I compare with myself blind on two separate occasions. This is a blind review that was done in a set of 21 blind bourbon (and rye) reviews, tasted in sets of 3 (on different days). None of the whiskies were revealed until all 21 were drunk. More information about this setup in the first review of the series.

Producer: Michter’s
ABV: 47.2%
Age: 10 years old.
Setting: Blind, in a trio with Elijah Craig Barrel Proof #12 (136 proof) and Old Forester Statesman

Nose: Cardamom, clove, dough, back pepper, wheat cracker, molasses, some eucalyptus. A little shy on the nose, and a kind of sterile ethanol note that I don’t appreciate.
Palate: Subdued upfront, doughy and caramel, slowly builds.
Finish: Light thready medium length finish, waffles, maple syrup, bay leaf, and almost a yeastiness.
Overall: Baking spice & herb forward, almost a european oak character, with a sweet dessert-link finish. This was nice and easy drinking, but maybe a little muddled in character.
Guess: From the proof, the muddled spice notes and wheat cracker thing I’m going to say Maker’s 46. On the other hand if this is Maker’s 46 I’m enjoying it a lot more than I usually do.
Rank: 5
Reveal: Haha, shit. The thought did not even cross my mind. I liked it exactly nowhere near as much as I did the first time I tasted it, but I have tasted a lot since then. This lines up reasonably well with my thoughts about modern Michter’s 10 unblind. Not worth the cash.
