Wemyss Wooden Chest

Wemyss Wooden Chest

Wemyss Wooden Chest is a blended malt that appears to have been created for the Scotch Whiskey Advent Calendar 5th Edition. I could not find any real information out there about it. It was bottled at 46%.

This is a series of blind tastings from the “The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar 5th Edition” advent calendar. I do not know what is in the calendar, so every one of these reviews is 100% no prior knowledge.

Nose: Round and buttery, milk chocolate, mellow woody funk, light grassy/hay notes. Treacle, sultana and dried apricot. Rather dark overall.
Palate: Bursts with hot spice, sulfured apricots, some nutmeg and grain.
Finish: Very present spice brings tones of vanilla, butter, golden syrup and raw grain. Reasonably long finish.
Overall: An interesting chocolatey pour that feels a little simple to me. The spice on the palate picks up and creates some interest, but it fell off a little after that. Sort of like tasting mild food after eating a chili.
Rank: 5
