Domaine De Séverin VO

Domaine De Séverin VO

Domaine de Séverin VO is a 3 year old agricole from Guadaloupe. It seems most of the information about this rum is in french, so I couldn’t find anything particularly interesting. Let’s just see how it taste.

This is a series of blind tastings from the “24 Rums” advent calendar. I have not looked at what is in the calendar, so every one of these reviews is 100% no prior knowledge.

Setting: Blind

Nose: Putrid basement, sweat, deep heavy funk, almost fecal. Rotting tropical fruit. smells like it’s going to be cloyingly sweet.
Palate: An enjoyable wave of mango turns rotten into durian and then plastic.
Finish: Ends with burning tyres, overwhelming rubber, plastic and putrid overripe fruit.
Overall: Let me say, I love funk. It’s one of my favourite sets of notes to find in spirits, wine and beer. This is a kind of funk that is pretty different for me. It’s so pungent and repulsive that it almost smells like fecal matter. Often you hear the phrase “in a good way” around a statement like that, but I will not say it here, this was difficult for me to drink.
