Enghaven Blackstrap Rum

Enghaven Blackstrap Rum

Enghaven Blackstrap Rum is from Denmark. There is little more information to be found about it on the internet. Enghaven is a rum producer in Denmark, but there is no such rum listed on their website. This one is bottled at 42%, and tastes lightly sweetened. It does not appear to be, as the name would suggest, a rum in the “Blackstrap” style of Cruzan.

This is a series of blind tastings from the “24 Rums” advent calendar. I have not looked at what is in the calendar, so every one of these reviews is 100% no prior knowledge.

Setting: Blind

Nose: Rich sultana, raw sugarcane, papaya and stewed fruits, a mild rubbery funk, brazil nuts.
Palate: Dried fruit explosion. Sultanas, dried apricot, prunes. A little sweetness, and some heat.
Finish: Falls of to a nice round savoury dried fruit finish, almost salty. Interesting.
Overall: Not too sweet, a good hit of heat, and interest from start to finish. I would have liked more oak character and slightly less sweetness. All in all, this was a good rum.
